Joseph Bernard Pugh, Esq, brother of Dr, J. Howard Pugh, died at his residence, Port Deposit, MD, in 1877, aged about 49n years.  HE was born in Unionville, Chester Co Pa, ad was educated for and admitted to the bar in Philadelphia.  He settled in Port Deposit in 1857 and established, in connection with James Davis, under the firm name of Davis and Pugh, an extensive lumber and forwarding business.  In 1864 he entered political life and was elected a member of the MD state Reform Constitutional Convention.  He was chairman of the MD Republican State Central Committee from 1873 to 1875, and was eminent for his ability and eloquence as an orator.  He was buried in the Friends' burial-ground at West Chester.
